The ninth annual Peconic Landing May Mile & 5K race scheduled for May 10 in Greenport will again benefit the Greenport Fire Department, organizers announced.

The race and walk begin at 10 a.m. followed by an awards ceremony at 11:15 a.m. and barbecue afterward. Registration and stretching begin at 8 a.m. at Brecknock Hall.

The “Older American Champion Award” will be presented to Father Thomas Murray, pastor of Greenport’s St. Agnes Church since 2002. The annual award honors a Long Island or local individual for his or her years of service and continued dedication to older Americans.

More than $160,000 has been raised for the Greenport Fire Department since the event’s inception in 2005, according to a press release. Last year’s event alone raised just over $24,000.
