Greenport News: Friends of Floyd Memorial Library’s spring raffle

Floyd Memorial Library Greenport

Pam Goodland, chairman of the arts department at Greenport Schools, received a beautiful email this past week from former student Ryan Malone (Class of 1996) letting her know he’s accepted a position as assistant professor of music at Bucknell University.

In closing, he credited her and former choral director Rusty Wells for all they’d instilled in him and said that without their guidance, he wouldn’t be where he is today. How fantastic is that? Congratulations, Ryan; we’re all proud of you here.

Congratulations also go to Katie and Adam Hukill on the birth of their daughter, Violet Anne, born March 8 in upstate New York. Violet tipped the scales at six pounds, 15 ounces. Bragging rights to this little beauty belong to maternal grandmother Karen Schulz of Greenport (who assures me that Grandpa Bill Schulz is smiling down from heaven) and Amy and Bill Hukill of East Marion.

Billy Hulse. Now there’s a blast from the past. (I can remember when he was born.) His mom, Cherie, called to tell me Bill is now a grandpa! On March 7, his daughter and son-in-law, Liz and Chuck Ross, welcomed a baby girl, Maria Veronica, who weighed in at seven pounds, 10 ounces. Congratulations to all!

The prize in the Friends of Floyd Memorial Library’s spring raffle is a stunning one-of-a-kind pendant and earring ensemble. Stop by and take a chance to benefit the funding of cultural events and children’s programs at the library. The winning ticket will be drawn Saturday, May 3, just in time for Mother’s Day.

The Greenport PTA clothing drive continues through April 12. Clothing, shoes, purses, backpacks, quilts, sheets, towels, curtains, hats, scarves, rugs and toys are all being accepted and can be dropped off in the main lobby at the school.

Congregation Tifereth Israel on Fourth Street invites the public to attend a Passover Seder dinner on Monday or Tuesday, April 14 or 15. The cost is $60 per person for adults; no charge for children under 12. Reservations are a must; call Elaine Goldman at 765-3504.

Celebrating birthdays in the near future are Emily Allen, Michelle Rempe and Kaitlyn Butterfield on April 3; Charles Gates, Kevin Sage, Dottie Mellas, Genevieve Skabeikis and Lara Hunt on the 4th; Jenny Gould on the 6th; Alex Allen, Elijah Shedrick and Simon Bond on the 7th; Sean Sage, Katie Zurek and Tim McLaughlin on the 8th; Lindsay Riemer and Jessica Golden on the 9th; Bobby Doucett on the 10th; Melanie Recchion and Paige Pope on the 11th; Jason Grattan, Debbie Schade, Valerie Gatz, my uncle Bernie Heaney, Sue Krukoski and Caitlin Jacobs on the 12th; Robert White III, Steve Damiani, my cousins Kassandra Chouinard and Ed Bondarchuk, Kaitlin McElroy and John Ramirez on the 13th; another cousin, Theresa Bubb, as well as Babette Cornine on the 14th; and Carol Mills and Joe Leonard on the 15th.
