Southold cops to amp up distracted driving patrol

SoutholdPD - Spring - 600

Members of the Southold Town Police Department will be stepping up their patrols later this month as part of a nationwide effort to curb distracted diving.

From Thursday, April 10, through Tuesday, April 15, officers will be focused on distracted driving enforcement in the town, in observation of the National Safety Council’s Distracted Driving Month.

The purpose of the initiative is to raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving — such as texting and driving.

The National Safety Council estimates more than 1 out of every 4 motor vehicle crashes involves cell phone use at the time of the crash.
