A 42-year-old man who allegedly threatened a family member on Long Island before fleeing the scene was arrested Thursday afternoon after he boarded the Cross Sound Ferry in Orient with a loaded gun, Connecticut police said.

Shawn Douglas was wanted by New York state police after allegedly threatening to kill someone and “menacing with a firearm” in Southampton town, New London police said. Mr. Douglas fled the scene — possibly with a Mac-10 machine pistol — and told relatives that he was heading to Massachusetts to “kill a family member,” according to a police statement.

Mr. Douglas boarded the Cross Sound Ferry Susan Anne in Orient and was detained after the ferry was docked in port in New London about 4 p.m., police said. He was found to be carrying a loaded firearm without a permit and was arrested.

He was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, breach of peace and unlawful possession of marijuana, police said. Mr. Douglas will “likely” face additional charges in New York, police said.
