Cops: Man airlifted after bicycle accident in Southold

A Huntington man was airlifted to Stony Brook Medical Center Sunday after he sustained severe facial injuries from a bicycle accident in Southold, according to a police press release.

Robert Zimardo, 63, was riding his bicycle near the intersection of Soundview Avenue and Hortons Lane at around 8:20 a.m. and flipped over the handlebars after applying the brake, Southold Town police said.

After Southold Fire Department’s rescue squad stabilized Mr. Zimardo, Suffolk County Aviation airlifted him to Stony Brook Medical Center, officials said.
