Greenport’s power plant project contractor, Bob Braun of Genesys Engineering, spoke highly of the village’s multi-million dollar renovations during the board’s regular hearing Tuesday night, and said that bidding on the second phase of the project would begin next month.
During a 15-minute presentation, Mr. Braun discussed the work already completed during Phase I of the multi-million dollar project to modernize the 1880s facility and about the phase two upgrades.
“The village of Greenport has a real gem here, with the electric plant,” he said. “I would say the village here is the most reliable on Long Island. The upgrades bring you to the forefront of modernization.”
Phase I cost roughly $3 million and finished behind scheduled earlier this year.
Phase II, which is estimated to cost $2 million, will include upgrades to cooling and electric systems, the addition of a security system and development of a comprehensive maintenance plan for the future.
Cooling towers will also be removed and consolidated, Mr. Braun said.
