Grandparents Brenda and Ed Flaherty are happy to share that granddaughters Fiona and Addison welcomed a new sister, Nelle Lillian Margaret Bruni, with gentle hugs and kisses when mom and dad, Lauren (Flaherty) and Michael Bruni, brought her home. Nelle, born April 15, weighing 7 lbs., 10 ounces and measuring 21 inches, brought smiles and excitement to the whole family!

New mom Lauren, who also graduated from Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass., with a master’s degree in early childhood education, has been busy indeed! On top of that, Fiona and Addison performed in their first dance recital this month! Brenda and Ed are so very proud and were thrilled to attend all the festivities and milestones in their daughter’s life! “God bless them all!”

Excitement is contagious, as members of Cutchogue Presbyterian Church can attest! Barbara McAdam happily shared that farmer Richie King, owner of North Sea Farms on the South Fork, has received a special commission from the L.I. Presbytery to become the church’s new pastor and has sparked new life into both church and community. “Much to the delight of the neighbors,” she said, Bill Graf has painted the fence in front of the church, an improvement that can be partly be attributed to Pastor Richie’s “spirit of revitalization and new energy.”

More good news: Congregant Bob Tapp has created a “Designer Showcase” at the Cutchogue Presbyterian Manse, which will be featured in the 2014 North Fork Designer Showcase in August. Event proceeds will benefit CAST, Timothy Hill Ranch, Maureen’s Haven and Katinka House. For more information, visit northforkdesignershowhouse.com.

Come one, come all to Cutchogue Fire Department’s Victoria Glover Scholarship buffet breakfast on Sunday, June 1, 8 a.m. to noon at the firehouse! Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children.

Put on your dancing shoes for an afternoon of Israeli folk dancing with instructor Danny Pollack Sunday, June 1, at 1:30 p.m. at Mattituck-Laurel Library. Tunes like Pharrell’s “Happy,” “Hava Nagila” and other folk songs will make you feel like clapping along! All are welcome!

Very special belated birthday wishes to Vaughn Ramsey of New Suffolk, who turned 100 on May 19. Several neighborhood children stopped by that day to deliver a card signed by all of his neighbors. Mr. Ramsey was a professional organist, playing in Southold churches for many years. When asked how he was handling his own centennial, he said, “I’m getting up slowly and holding on tight!” As to what contributed to his longevity, he said he’s always been a big milk drinker. Cheers, Mr. Ramsey!

Help fill the house for a performance of “Midsummer: A Dream Inside a Dream” by the performing arts club of Our Lady of Mercy Regional School on Saturday, June 7, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, June 8, at 4 p.m. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at the door.

Karen and Dan Letteriello could not be prouder! Daughter Brittany earned an A on her thesis, “Students with Interrupted Formal Education.” Certified to teach English for grades 7-12, she has worked as a leave replacement teacher in several schools, including Southold. She’ll complete her master’s in English as a Second Language in August. Brother Dan graduated from Westfield State University in Massachusetts, where he’ll do graduate work and be an assistant football coach. All the best!

Seeing Gary Spath’s friendly face is a nice way to start the day when I drop my son off at school. It was also nice to see Gary on Mother’s Day surrounded by his loved ones — Nancy, Timmy, Theresa, Chrissy and Ryan Wilsberg, and grandchildren Jayden, 2 1/2, and Lucy, 2 months old.

You can count on Cutchogue East chorus teacher Patty Verity to choose a song that expresses her students’ sweetness. This year’s rendition of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” by the fourth-grade chorus did just that! I must add that this year’s fourth-grade band is one of the best elementary school bands I’ve heard!

CAST is preparing for a food drive at local supermarkets on Saturday, June 7. Hours are 10 a.m. to noon at King Kullen and 10 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at Waldbaum’s. Contact director Sarah Benjamin at 477-1717 or [email protected] to see how you can help.

May the graduates of the Class of 2014 and all the young ladies and gentlemen who made their communions and confirmations this month live in peace! Shalom.
