Mattituck-Laurel News: ‘Images in Music’

Mattituck High SchoolJune is one of the busiest months of the year, with end-of-year parties, retirements, graduations and awards ceremonies.

Trying to juggle it all can be daunting, but exciting.

R031209_Arslanian_RTomorrow evening you have the unique opportunity of seeing some of our multitalented students in “Images in Music,” presented by band director Tim Caskin and the high school band. This collaboration of photography, guided by Steven Scheiber, and music will be held in the library at 7:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to enjoy this music and fi ne images.

Just a reminder: The Mattituck-Cutchogue PTA and PTSA invite members, past and present, to celebrate Mr. McKenna’s retirement at a reception in his honor Thursday, June 12, at Macari Vineyards in Mattituck. A general PTSA meeting will be held at 5 p.m. and the reception will follow immediately at 6. Feel free to pass the event information on to all former members who may have worked closely with Mr. McKenna during his tenure as superintendent or high school principal. RSVP at [email protected].

Members of the Class of 1989 will be honorary guests at this year’s commencement, June 21 at 10 a.m. The tradition of having alumni from 25 years ago attend the ceremony provides a special moment during every year’s event. If you have questions, contact Lisa Bieber at 298-8471, ext. 3223.

Congratulations to Christine Bieber on being named this year’s MHS salutatorian. Christine will attend St. Joseph’s College in the fall. Christian Montgomery has the honor of being this year’s valedictorian and will attend the University of Pennsylvania in the fall. Good luck to both students. You make us proud!

Congratulations to Jessica Zaweski on her graduation May 23 from the Vermont Police Academy in Pittsford. Jessica, who was a criminal justice major at Norwich University, will be a police offi cer with the Burlington Police Department.

The Southold Mothers’ Club will host its annual yard sale June 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the corner of Elijah’s Lane and Tabor Road in Mattituck. This unique sale offers items for children, from newborns to teens, as well as maternity clothes. To volunteer or donate, contact dee@southoldmothers.org.
