Southold Town unveils interactive tax map

Southold Tax Map inquiry

Ever wonder what that vacant parcel at the end of your block is zoned? Now you can with a click of the mouse on the Town of Southold’s website.

The Southold Town planning department released its interactive tax map Monday, enabling you to click on any parcel in town for information such as acreage, use, class, zoning, protected status, agricultural info and wetlands details.

“We’ll be adding more data and layers to this map in the coming months,” planning director Heather Lanza said in an email announcing the map’s release Monday.

John Sepenoski of the town’s information systems department told the Town Board earlier this month that the the plan is to design a more comprehensive interactive zoning map that would not require a tax map number for search and would outline different types of zoning in each hamlet in more detail. Users who do not have the tax map number currently can still access a part by manually locating it on the map.

The interactive map is one of three the town has been working on, Mr. Sepenoski said. A second map will show public trails in Southold Town — providing addresses of the preserves, information on parking and ability to map out the trails.  The third map is designed to clarify what roads are private or maintained by the town, county or state.
