Greenport School Board members held a special meeting early Wednesday morning to create two new positions within the school district.

All board members in attendance at the 7:30 a.m. meeting voted unanimously in favor of both resolutions on the two-item agenda. Members Dan Creedon and Babette Cornine were not present.

The first item appointed Greenport’s current director of operations Marcus DaSilva to the new position of Plant Facility Manger at a salary of $115,000, effective July 1.  He will now be responsible for groundskeeping and building maintenance at both Southold and Greenport schools, since the Southold groundskeeper is retiring.

The board then appointed Greenport Elementary School Principal and director of special education Joseph Tsaveras to oversee the newly created pre-K daycare program at the school.

Mr. Tsaveras will earn an $8,000 stipend for his new role as Pre-K Principal/Director of Special Education for Pre-K.

Under the new program, the district will partner with Alternatives for Children, a not-for-profit private school, to craft a full-day program that would mirror the kindergarten’s five-day schedule starting in September.
