Health Beat: ‘Learn to be Tobacco-Free’ classes

‘Learn to be Tobacco-Free’ classes begin Monday, July 14, at 6 p.m. at Southold Free Library and continue each Monday through Aug. 18. There is no charge, but you must sign up by the second session, July 21. Call 765-2077 to register. 

• Tickets are now available for the ELIH ‘Dream Green Extravaganza,’ with cash prizes ranging from $500 to a grand prize of $50,000. Tickets cost $100 apiece; only 2,900 will be sold. Purchase tickets online at elih.org or at Claudio’s restaurant in Greenport; Robert’s Jewelers, Southold Pharmacy or Showcase Wine and Liquor in Southold; Peconic Liquors in Cutchogue; and Orlowski Hardware in Mattituck. Winners will be selected Sunday, Sept. 21, during the Greenport Maritime Festival.

• North Fork Women’s Resource Center in Cutchogue is now forming summer yoga classes with Rosemary. Gentle yoga meets at 9 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays; easy stretch men’s yoga on Thursdays at 9:15 a.m.; and easy chair yoga at 10:45 a.m. on Fridays. Call 604-0107.

• Cutchogue New Suffolk Library will host a free lecture, ‘Tick-Borne Disease: What You Need to Know,’ sponsored by Southampton Hospital, on Tuesday, July 15, at 7:30 p.m. Dr. George Dempsey of the hospital’s Tick-Borne Disease Resource Center, will review the variety of illnesses and ticks common on the East End and discuss symptoms, diagnostic tests and available treatment options.
