Art Beat: Plein air painting at North Fork Community Theatre

• Local artist Alan Bull will lead a plein air painting event from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at North Fork Community Theatre in Mattituck. The community is invited to come and paint or just come and watch. There will be a wine tasting and refreshments.

The event is a kickoff for a juried art show at the theater that will feature two-dimensional work depicting the historic Mattituck building. Artists may enter up to three works measuring no more than 24 inches square; the submission deadline is Oct. 1. Selected work will be displayed at the theater from December through April 2015.

Architectural renderings will also be eligible for an award and will be considered for use as a logo.

• Work by East End artists Madeline D’Aversa and Alyce Peifer will be on view July 17 to 28 at Gallery Crossing in Peconic.

Ms. D’Aversa works in print mediums such as woodcut, reduction printing, etching, monoprint, a la poupee and hand-coloring. “Her pieces reflect a love for the natural environment of the North Fork,” according to a press release.

Ms. Peifer’s plein air paintings include scenes from her travels and of the Hamptons’ bays, farms and ocean.

An artists’ reception will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 19.

• “Landscapes of Spirit,” photography by Kit Storjohann, will be exhibited at Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport from July 19 to Aug. 31. An opening reception is set for 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 19.

Mr. Storjohann is based in Greenport. “His work focuses on landscapes, ordinary people and whatever little corners of the world tell a story,” according to a release.

• A summer art show will take place Saturday, July 19, at Osprey’s Dominion Vineyards in Peconic. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., there will be art, wine, beer, food and live music. The event is presented by L.I. Art Show.

Musical offerings abound this weekend and into Monday:

Saturday, July 19: The Hidden City Orchestra, organized by composer George Cork Maul, performs at Horton Point Lighthouse in Southold at 6 p.m. Rain location: First Presbyterian Church of Southold. Tickets are $10 for adults and free for children under 12. The concert is presented by Southold Historical Society.

Sunday, July 20: Classical guitarist Francisco Roldán gives a free concert at Floyd Memorial Library at 2 p.m. Presented by Friends of the Library.

Monday, July 21: ‘An Evening With Sondheim’ will be hosted by the Jamesport Meeting House at 7:30 p.m. The cast features “rising stars” Joe Cassidy, Tari Kelly, Beth Kirkpatrick, Marissa McGowan and Jonathan Rayson, accompanied on piano by Andrew Byrne. Monday, July 21: The No Doubt World Famous Monday Night Band continues its summer concerts on the Pulaski Street School lawn in Riverhead at 7:30 p.m. John Eyre directs. The concert will move indoors in case of rain.

East End Photographers Group will present a “Summer Celebration” of traditional, digital and alternative photography from July 19 to Aug. 10 at the Water Mill Museum. A reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 19.
