Cops: Suspicious package at Plum Island just a false alarm

A suspicious package delivered to the Plum Island ferry dock in Orient sparked a multi-agency investigation Wednesday night that turned out to be a false alarm, police said.

Southold Police got the call from Plum Island security officers around 10:35 p.m. Wednesday night and were joined by Suffolk County Emergency Services to assist in the investigation, police said.

When emergency services personnel opened the package they found it contained maintenance supplies and was not hazardous, police said.
