Cops: Drunk man yelled at hospital staff, fought with police

A “highly irate” Mattituck man was arrested Sunday night after he drunkenly yelled at hospital employees in Greenport, according to Southold Town police.

The man later fought with police after they transported him back to headquarters, police said.

Police received reports of a man cursing and “becoming violent” with staff at Eastern Long Island Hospital about 7:40 p.m. and after they arrived and found a drunk 55-year-old Arturo Zitarosa cursing at the staff, according to a police statement.

Cops warned Mr. Zitarosa to stop; he was arrested after he continued to curse and was brought back to police headquarters, police said.

Police tried to put Mr. Zitarosa in a holding cell, but he “became combative” and had to be restrained. He was ultimately charged with obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor.
