William T. Comber

William T. Comber of Greenport died Aug. 15. The Peconic Landing resident was 89. 

He was born Nov. 20, 1924, in Brooklyn to Florence (Wilson) and William J. Comber and married Carmel Tavernese March 28, 1948, at St. Fortunata Church in Brooklyn.

Mr. Comber served in the U.S. Army for three years, achieving the rank of private. He founded Grade A Petroleum Corp. of Valley Stream in May, 1948.

He is survived by his wife, his sons, William of Punta Gorda, Fla., Thomas of Atlantic Beach and Joseph of Sag Harbor; his daughter, Nancy Amato of Oceanside; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family received visitors Aug. 18 at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. A funeral Mass took place the same day at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport. Interment was at the church cemetery.
