Kaitlyn Doré Doorhy

Kaitlyn Doré Doorhy of Mattituck died suddenly Aug. 22, 2014, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, Conn. She was 20. 

She was born June 12, 1994, at Southampton Hospital to Joseph M. and Darla A. (Nankervis) Doorhy and was a National Honor Society graduate of Mattituck High School’s Class of 2012. She had been attending Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn., and was a member of the National Political Science Honor Society, Dean’s List and Kappa Delta Sorority.

In addition, she had been a Girl Scout ambassador, a member of Distributive Education Club of America, a cheerleader, soccer player, blood drive committee member and donor, 5K run participant, a member of the MHS Booster Club, Parent Teacher Student Association fashion show, concert band and jazz band, was a New York State School Music Association soloist, played four instruments and participated in Music in the Parks and the National Youth Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., in 2009.

Kaitlyn was also a member of Sacred Heart Parish (Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck), where she had been an altar server and was involved in Maureen’s Haven, the religious education program and the annual Christmas tea event.

At the age of 17, she was the manager of aMano Restaurant in Mattituck and also worked at ALure Restaurant in Southold and Michael Kors at Tanger Outlets in Riverhead.

In 2011, she was Mattituck Lions’ Strawberry Queen and attained the rank of chief in the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC).

She is survived by her parents; her sister, Carly Anne Doorhy of Mattituck; two sets of grandparents; aunts; uncles; cousins; great-aunts; and great-uncles.

The family received friends Aug. 28 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck, where prayer services were conducted by Sister Anne Lynch, RSM. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Aug. 29 at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church by Monsignor Joseph Staudt, Father David Buckley of Sacred Heart University and Father Peter Garry of St. Patrick R.C. Church in Southold.

Interment followed at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.
