Art Beat: ‘Oil and Water’ show in Greenport

• “Oil and Water,” a show of paintings by Carol Halliburton and photographs by Sally Gelling, will be on view Oct. 18 to Nov. 30 at Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport.

In a press release, Ms. Halliburton said, “For me, painting is about finding a solution to representing nature on a flat surface,” and Ms. Gelling said, “The act of putting something in a frame draws me into the picture and asks me to carefully look at what’s in it.”

A reception will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18.

• “The Still Life,” featuring work by Harold Naideau and Steven Schreiber, will be open Saturday, Oct. 18, with an artists’ reception from 6 to 8 p.m. at Alex Ferrone Photography Gallery in Cutchogue.

Mr. Naideau is a Long Island photographer, artist and educator who has had his commercial photography featured in publications such as Vogue and The New York Times Magazine. He is president of the Long Island chapter of the American Society of Media Photographers.

Mr. Schreiber worked in interior and landscape design before moving to the East End. He now concentrates on his photography.

The artists will give a gallery talk at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9. The exhibit will continue through Nov. 23.

• During the run of “The Still Life,” Alex Ferrone Photography Gallery will hold a household goods drive for North Fork Parish Outreach. Donations will be accepted of paper towels, laundry detergent, dish-washing liquid, multipurpose cleaners, garbage bags and sponges, etc.

• A mid-show reception for “East End Musings,” photography by Daniel Jones and Jim Sabiston, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at The South Street Gallery in Greenport. The exhibit will run through Nov. 3.
