Carroll J. Harvey

Longtime Mattituck resident Carroll J. “Jack” Harvey died Oct. 19 at Long Island State Veterans Home in Stony Brook. He was 96. 

Mr. Harvey was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Roseland, Va., to Hersey Homer Harvey and Maxie (Wood) Harvey. He spent his childhood and young adult years in Virginia.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1944. He was wounded during the invasion of Normandy and received a Purple Heart. He later worked for the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets in Riverhead for 30 years.

Mr. Harvey was a past member of Mattituck Fire Department and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2476 in Riverhead. He was a current member of Mattituck American Legion and Mattituck Presbyterian Church.

Predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Stella, in 1995 and his daughter Beverly Jean Beakhurst, he is survived by his son, Carroll J. Harvey Jr. of Roseland, Va.; his daughter Judy (Tom) McDermott of Rochester; two granddaughters, Mary Kathleen (Dave) Fohrkolb of Mattituck and Carolynne Harvey of Ridgewood, N.J.; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue, where a service will take place at 6:30 p.m. Interment will take place Thursday, Oct. 23, at 10 a.m. at Calverton National Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Mattituck Presbyterian Church.
