The Mattituck girls soccer team will open the 2014 playoffs Saturday in a home game against McGann-Mercy. The Tuckers are the No. 4 seed and the Monarchs are seeded fifth in Class B.

The game starts at 3 p.m. The winner advances to play top-seeded Port Jefferson Wednesday.

The Tuckers and Monarchs split the season series this year; the Monarchs won the most recent matchup, 3-1. Mattituck finished with an 8-5-2 record while Mercy was 8-7-1.

The Tuckers last won a county title in 2008 and Mercy’s last title came in 2005. The Tuckers have 14 county titles dating back to 1988 while Mercy has won three since 2001.

The Southold/Greenport girls were seeded sixth in Class B and will travel to No. 3 Center Moriches at 2 p.m. Saturday. The winner of that game will face No. 2 Babylon Wednesday on the road.

The Clippers went 6-7-2 this season and did not play Center Moriches, which is in a league above Southold. The Red Devils went 7-7-2.

For the boys, Mattituck — the four-time defending county champions — will open as the No. 1 seed in Class B. The Tuckers will host No. 4 Southampton in the semifinals. The county championship is Nov. 1 at Diamond in the Pines.

The Southold boys receive an automatic bid into the county finals of Class C as the No. 2 seed. The First Settlers will host No. 1 Pierson/Bridgehampton at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 1.

The Settlers will be looking to defend their title from a year ago when they defeated Pierson, 5-2.
