Renovations being made inside Bookhampton in Mattituck have caused the book store to close temporarily, its owner says.

Empty bookshelves could be seen in the Love Lane storefront Friday and a sign was papered to a window informing customers of the temporary closure.

Charline Spector anticipates reopening prior to the holiday season.

In May, Ms. Spector pleaded with customers in a mass email to buy a book and save the store. On Friday, however, she said the store is doing “better” financially, adding that the closure is simply to rearrange items in store.

She insisted the bookstore is not in danger of permanently closing.

Until its reopening, customers can buy a book at bookhampton.com or by visiting the company’s East Hampton or Southampton stores.
