Cops: Mattituck woman stole church employees’ purses

A 25-year-old woman was arrested Monday for allegedly stealing purses from a Mattituck church, Southold Town police said.

Sibel Pumillo of Mattituck was arrested after two women that work at Advent Lutheran Church reported their purses were stolen from the lobby, officials said.

Following an investigation, police determined that Ms. Pumillo had been inside the church earlier in the day and stole the property, officials said.

Ms. Pumillo was charged with petit larceny and transported to police headquarters where she’s being held overnight for an arraignment.

In November, Ms. Pumillo was arrested on an outstanding bench warrant for a petit larceny charge after failing to appear in Southampton Town Justice Court.
