Longtime New Suffolk resident Valerie F. Leoniak, died Oct. 30 at Mather Memorial Hospital. She was 69. 

She was born June 21, 1945, in New York City to William and Enid Bollman. Valerie had previously lived in Danbury, Conn.; Fredon and Sparta, N.J.; Greenwood Lake, Queens, and West Hempstead. She attended The Mary Louis Academy and St. John’s University. Valerie spent her childhood summers in Cutchogue and was happy to retire to the area.

Valerie was a homemaker who loved golf, baking, hand quilting and gardening. Family members said she was a gifted watercolor artist, who captured the beauty of the North Fork in her paintings. She loved spoiling her dogs, Skipper and Waldo.

Valerie was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Cedarettes at Cedar’s Golf Course.

Family members said she bravely battled illness several times throughout her life and maintained grace throughout. They wish to thank doctors, nurses, and staff who cared for Valerie during her difficult days.

Valerie is survived by her husband, Peter of New Suffolk; her daughters, Elizabeth McDowell of Massachusetts and Catherine Santopadre of Colorado; her sons, Michael, of Garrison, N.Y. and Nicholas, of Colorado; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Sunday, Nov. 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. A funeral service will be held Monday, Nov. 3, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Mattituck. Interment will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cutchogue.
