Cops: Previous DWI offender caught with open beer in car

Police said a Peconic man was caught driving drunk last night while driving on Route 48, pulled over with an open beer in the middle console when police approached his car.

According to Southold Police, 30-year-old Mario Rolando Uyu Puluc failed to maintain his lane of travel while driving eastbound in Cutchogue around 10:45 p.m. when he was charged with felony DWI.

He was pulled over in his 1996 Nissan Maxima, and when an officer approached the car, it was reported that an open 12 oz. bottle of Modelo beer was in the middle console of the car.

The driver was given a field sobriety test and reportedly was found to be intoxicated.

Police said Mr. Uyu-Puluc was also found to have a suspended drivers license due to a prior DWI offense.

He was charged with unlicensed operation in the second degree, aggravated DWI — a felony — and consumption of an alcoholic beverage in a car.
