Raymond Joseph Sparling Sr.

Longtime Greenport resident Raymond Joseph Sparling Sr. died Nov. 22 at Stonybrook University Hospital. He was 70. 

Mr. Sparling was born Oct. 20, 1944, in Flushing to Catherine (Gogle) and Stewart Sparling. He married Eleanna Amanda Austin Aug. 14, 1983, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Greenport.

He worked for 20 years as a stock clerk at King Kullen in Cutchogue. He was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and involved with Greenport Boy Scout Troup 51.

Family members said Mr. Sparling enjoyed attending antique car shows, puzzles, reading and cooking.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Sparling is survived by his son, Raymond Jr,  of Greenport; his daughter, Melissa, of Florida; his stepdaughter, Ann Marie Torres of Levittown; his sister, Alice Buesker of Flushing; his brothers, Stewart, of Albany and Larry, of Baltimore, Md.; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Tuesday, Nov. 25, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. A funeral service will take place Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, officiated by the Rev. John E. Walker.
