Britta Viola Stroem

Britta Viola Stroem of Greenport died Nov. 27. She was 97. 

Ms. Stroem was born Oct. 26, 1917, in Stidsvig, Östra Ljungby, Sweden to Hanna (Ohlson) and Carl Friberg. She later received her general education diploma.

In 1949 she married Carl Fredrik Stroem in New York City. The couple ran a Scandanavian business, the Scandia Superette in Nesconset for 55 years.

Predeceased by her husband, Ms. Stroem is survived by her son, Ian Arthur; her daughter, Jean Elisabeth Henrysson of Munka Ljungby, Sweden; and one grandchild.

The family received visitors Dec. 1 at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. A funeral took place Dec. 2 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Greenport. Cremation was private.
