Alvin Jack Combs III of Mattituck, passed away Dec. 19, 2014. 

He was born in Huntington Jan. 1, 1962, to Alvin Jack and Patricia (née Widmyer) Combs and was a graduate of Southold High School.

Upon graduation, Jack with his passion for cooking, worked in many local east end restaurants.

Jack started his painting business in the early ’80s. He could always be found on many of the local church steeples, painting and restoring them to their former beauty. Jack was also a gifted woodworker: meticulously restoring his first home in Greenport and crafting custom works in his Mattituck shop.

Jack was 13th generation Long Island resident. As a young man, he loved the bays and clamming from the family bay house in Seaford.

Jack is survived by his three children, Megan, Lauren and A.J.; and their mother Gail; his parents, Alvin Jack and Patricia; his five siblings, Sharon, Jacqueline, Thomas, Jennifer and Michael; many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and extended family.

Jack had a wide circle of friends that were touched by his tender heart and generous spirit.

A private service took place Dec. 23 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck.

A memorial service celebrating Jack’s life will take place in the spring of 2015. All will be welcomed at the service.  The date will be announced at a later time.
