Staff picks: Our favorite stories of 2014

We asked our crew what 2014 stories they most enjoyed reading or meant the most to them. Here are just a few of our responses. Have any favorites of your own from 2014? Share them below in the comments section.

Jen_BWJen Nuzzo, associate editor: “The story about Will Parks of Coastline Cesspool & Drain Service and North Fork Animal Welfare League officials rescuing Willy the kitten made me smile. It had the ultimate happy ending when Mr. Parks adopted him.”

Rachel_BWRachel Young, staff writer:  “I loved the laugh-out-loud column about the increasingly ludicrous combination of characters required for passwords and how difficult it is to remember them all.”

Andrew_BWAndrew Olsen, publisher: “I grew up in Southold with the Heidtmanns and the Goldsmiths, so my favorite story of the year was Jeff Heidtmann pulling Robert Frey from the canal in Harbor Lights and saving his life. The Southold FD’s dedicated rescue squad took over from there.”

Grant_BWGrant Parpan, executive editor: Katelyn Nolan and her business, See Beauty Everywhere jewelry. I love reading about young people who turn pain into a positive. Truly a beautiful story. I wish her luck.”
