Health Beat: San Simeon administrator honored

Steven Smyth, administrator at San Simeon by the Sound Center for Nursing, Rehabilitation and Adult Day Health Care in Greenport, has been named a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Administrators. According to a release, the designation recognizes “professional achievement and continuous adherence to the [organization’s] professional standards.” Advancement to ACHCA fellowship requires a record of participation in continuing education, suitable formal education, community service and at least two years’ voting membership, the release states.

• The Senior Wellness Education Series will present a special workshop by the Alzheimer’s Association, ‘Know the 10 Signs: Early Detection Matters,’ on Friday, Feb. 6, from 11 a.m. to noon at the town senior center, 750 Pacific St. in Mattituck. Older adults, family members, friends and caregivers are welcome.

• Peconic Landing in Greenport has named Jerri White, an LPN and home health aide with its home care agency, as February’s employee of the month. According to a release, Ms. White cares for several individual clients at the facility, working seven days a week. Administrator and executive vice president Greg Garrett described Ms. White as “patient, honest, dependable, perceptive and empathetic” and praised her as “meticulous in her documentation.” These qualities, he added, “exemplify the Peconic Landing values.”

• Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead will host an epilepsy support group Monday, Feb. 9, from 7 to 8 p.m. in conference room A on the second floor. The group provides encouragement, acceptance, comfort and empowerment. Patients, friends and family are all welcome.
