Cops: Southold man sideswipes car, charged with DWI

A 56-year-old Southold man was arrested for driving while intoxicated in Southold Sunday night after fleeing the scene of an accident, Southold Town police said. 

Police arrested David Douglas Hardy around 8 p.m. at his home following the accident, police said. A Southold resident called police to report a white van traveling westbound on Route 25 sideswiped his car that was parked on the shoulder of the road, police said. The man got into his car and followed the van until it parked at a Southold residence, police said.

Officers arrived shortly after and found Mr. Hardy to be intoxicated, police said. Mr. Hardy was arrested at his house after failing several sobriety tests, police said.

He is charged with DWI and leaving the scene of an accident, police said.
