The scheduled arraignment of a 71-year-old Greenport man charged with vehicular manslaughter over a fatal car crash last year has been pushed back to next week, court officials said Wednesday.

John Costello has been accused of driving drunk and swerving into oncoming traffic on Dec. 6, striking another car and killing a passenger, Bartalone Miguel, 32, of Peconic.

A review of online court records shows Mr. Costello will be facing a top charge of vehicular manslaughter and two additional felony charges for recklessly causing death, along with three misdemeanor charges — two related to driving drunk — and a traffic infraction.

A grand jury indicted Mr. Costello two weeks ago on the upgraded charges.

He was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday, but the court date was moved at the request of Mr. Costello’s attorney, William Keahon, a district attorney spokesperson said.
