Video: 5 animals missing; watch cat scurry from Greenport fire

The North Fork Animal Welfare League is asking for the public’s help in locating five animals that went missing after a fire broke out Thursday at a home in Greenport.

According to the The North Fork Animal Welfare League’s Facebook page, three cats and two dogs have been missing since fire officials responded at around 12:30 a.m. to the Kaplan Avenue home.

Video of the scene shot by Andrew Miller shows a cat scurrying away from the fire:

It is unclear if the cats were inside or outside the house at the time of the fire, according to animal shelter officials. The two shepherd-pitbull mixed dogs ran away when firefighters opened the back door during the rescue efforts, officials said.

The shelter is asking anyone with information about the animals’ whereabouts to call (631) 765-1811 ext. 1.
