Art Beat: East End Arts a finalist for Innovation Award

East End Arts has been named a finalist in the third annual Long Island Imagine Awards in the Innovation Award category.

The Riverhead group’s nomination came as a result of its role in founding and managing the music festival Winterfest Live on the Vine at local wineries and other venues.

Finalists for the Imagine Awards were chosen by Long Island business professionals during preliminary judging. Award winners, chosen by a panel of judges, will be announced May 5.

‘The Cartoon,’ a juried, all-media exhibit, will be on view April 24 to June 12 at East End Arts. It will open with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 24, at the Riverhead gallery.

The guest juror is Matthew Langland, artist and key animator of the feature film “Waking Life.”

• The Recorder Orchestra, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, will present “Recorder Rendezvous” at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Jamesport Meeting House.

The group’s instruments range in length from six inches to six feet. It performs works from the medieval, Renaissance and baroque periods as well as contemporary and swing pieces.

General admission is $15; student admission is $10. Call 751-5969 or 722-5170.
