Achievements: Awards for local college students

• Nina Senesac Crowley, a 2000 graduate of Mattituck High School, recently received an Excellence in Outcomes Research for the Emerging Researcher award from the Weight Management Dietetic Practice Group and the Academy of Nutrition. Ms. Crowley, a bariatric surgery dietician with the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, holds a bachelor’s degree in nutrition science from Cornell and a master’s in health care policy and management from SUNY/Stony Brook.

• Marvin Rodriguez of Greenport has been inducted into the SUNY/Oneonta chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society.

• 1st Lt. Haleigh Taylor of Mattituck was recently promoted to the rank of captain. A 2007 graduate of Mattituck High School and 2011 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, she will be stationed in Alaska.

• Thomas Deans, son of Barbara Kelling of Laurel, was recently elected to a full professorship at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, where he directs the college writing program. A graduate of Mattituck High School and Georgetown University, he earned a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and previously taught at Kansas State University and Haverford (Pa.) College.

• Gerard Stankewicz of Peconic has been inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society, for business/management students, at St. Bonaventure (N.Y.) University.

• Megan Demarest of Orient has been named to the spring semester dean’s list at Lycoming College in Wiliamsport, Pa., where she is a junior majoring in criminal justice and criminology.
