Greenport News: Memorial Day book sale at library

This is it, folks; our last hurrah. This time tomorrow our sleepy little village will turn into the North Fork’s booming vacation hot spot. Plan accordingly!

Need a book for the beach or to take along on your vacation? Check out hundreds of gently used books at reasonable prices at the Friends of Floyd Memorial Library’s Memorial Day weekend book sale Saturday, May 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the community room on the lower level.

For the third year in a row, Greenport School has been named by U.S News and World Report as one of the best in the nation. Congratulations to our students and their teachers for helping to achieve this monumental feat.

The following young people were honored May 10 for serving this year as acolytes at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Greenport: Jacob Boivin, Blayr Corazzini, Amanda Dickerson, Toni Esposito, Annabel, Fernando and Rebecca Hammerle, Ben Hinsch, Christyn, Christina and Christopher North, Bennett Oats, Jillian and Oliver Orr and Amber, Dawn and Tyler Rochon.

Here’s a reminder to the parents of all Greenport students: School will be closed Friday, May 22, and Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day.

Here’s another reminder, for all varsity athletes — including Southold and Mattituck students who played a Greenport-hosted sport — and parents. The annual varsity sports awards ceremony and dinner will take place Thursday, June 4,  in the school auditorium, beginning at 6 p.m.  Invitations have been sent out to the athletes.  If you haven’t done so yet, please RSVP to me at ASAP at 477-1950, ext. 1224. Planning is much easier if we have a rough estimate of how many will attend. Thanks so much!

Healing wishes go out to Kenny Tamin and his mom, Carolyn, both of whom underwent surgery this past week. You can’t keep good people down, so I know it won’t be long until both of them are back to good-as-new condition.
