Track and Field: Mercy grad receives chancellor’s award
Buffalo State junior Saśa Vann received the SUNY Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete Award for women’s track and field for the second consecutive season.
The award was created in 2003-04 to recognize students who have combined academic excellence and outstanding athletic achievement at the Division I, Division III and NJCAA levels at SUNY schools. For a State University of New York Athletic Conference student-athlete to be eligible, he or she must be a member of the first or second all-conference teams or the all-tournament team. A student-athlete can only win the award once per sport.
Vann, a former Bishop McGann-Mercy Diocesan High School athlete, has maintained a 3.84 cumulative grade-point average and has been a standout sprinter for the Bengals.
During the indoor season she claimed a SUNYAC title in the 400-meter dash and went on to place 10th at the NCAA Championships. She also captured an ECAC Championship in the 500-meter dash, and won the SUNYAC outdoor 400-meter dash championship as well.
Vann will represent Buffalo State at the NCAA Division III Championships at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., this weekend in the 400-meter dash and the 4×400-meter relay. She is ranked 17th in the 400.
