• “Translucent,” photographs by Karen Bell and Ennid Berger, will be on view June 27 to Aug. 9 at Alex Ferrone Photography Gallery in Cutchogue. An artists’ reception is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 27.

Ms. Bell’s use of “natural curiosities” in “combined photographic images on airy layers of vellum over paper” will be shown alongside “delicate images from chance encounters found with greenery fragments and petals afloat in still waters,” according to a press release.

Ms. Berger will show “luminous images that have captured the energy and mass of her botanical subjects on light-sensitive paper.” Some pieces include hand-applied oil paint.

The two photographers will give a free gallery talk at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 12.

• The July exhibit at Mattituck-Laurel Library features “Variations on a Dream,” paintings and mixed media by Lois Levy.

In a press release, Ms. Levy said, “I am as comfortable with representational art as I am with mixed media abstraction. My ultimate goal is for people to enjoy viewing my work as much as I enjoy the journey of its creation.”

A reception will be held Friday, July 10, from 5 to 7 p.m.

• The Basket Weavers Guild of Eastern Long Island is exhibiting members’ work in Riverhead Free Library’s display case through July 6.

Guild members will demonstrate their craft at several venues on the following Saturdays this summer: July 11, Southold Town’s 375th anniversary Artisan Fair at First Presbyterian Church of Southold; July 18, Peconic River Herb Farm in Calverton; Aug. 8, Horton Point Lighthouse in Southold; and Aug. 29, Oysterponds Historical Society in Orient. All sessions are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rain cancels.

The guild, which welcomes new members, meets the second Thursday of the month from September to June at St. John the Evangelist School in Riverhead. Contact Alice Schaub at 516-316-7684 for details.

• Award-winning quilter, author and teacher RaNae Merrill will present a trunk show, “How I Became a Spiromaniac (And You Can Too!)” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Southold Town Recreation Center in Peconic. The program is hosted by the Eastern Long Island Quilters’ Guild.

Ms. Merrill, author of “Simply Amazing Spiral Quilts” and “Magnificent Spiral Mandala Quilts,” will show examples of her work and demonstrate several related techniques.

Guests pay $5 at the door.

A spiral quilt workshop with Ms. Merrill is planned for Saturday, Aug. 15, at Old Steeple Community Church in Aquebogue. For registration information, email [email protected] or visit eliqg.com.
