Southold Blotter: DWI arrest, damaged mailbox and laptop theft

A Greenport woman was arrested for drunk driving early Thursday morning in Greenport, Southold Town police said.

According to a police press release, Lisa L. Johnson, 39, was observed traveling left of the double yellow lines and failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign on First Street at 2:06 a.m.

Upon investigation, authorities said, Ms. Johnson had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath, bloodshot, glassy eyes and slurred speech and was unsteady on her feet.

After failing a number of sobriety field tests, Ms. Johnson was arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing, officials said.

• A Mattituck man reported that someone apparently destroyed his neighbor’s mailbox with a firework Saturday night, according to a police report.

The man said the mailbox on Central Drive was damaged sometime after 10 p.m. on Sunday, according to a police report. The neighbor told police he didn’t see the culprit but believes an M80 firework was used.

• Someone stole a laptop worth $1,100 from a home on Johnson Court in Greenport Friday, according to a police report.

The laptop’s owner said the front door of the house was open when her daughter returned home from school about 3 p.m. Both the laptop and a charger were missing from her bedroom.

The computer was a rental, the victim said. Southold Town police detectives are investigating the incident.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
