The Tall Ships are coming and there will be a pair of free lectures given tonight about the history of the signature ship at next week’s festival.

Francis Dubois, a native of France and a member of the Greenport Improvement Committee, will lead a lecture about the Hermione at 7 p.m. inside the Old Schoolhouse on Front Street in Greenport.

A United Nations ambassador, the discussion will also detail Mr. Dubois’ service to both France and the United States.

At the same time on Shelter Island, the library there will host its Friday Night Dialogues series, which this week centers around the history of the Hermione. Given by Roger McKeon, dubbed Shelter Island’s “most distinguished Frenchman,” the discussion will detail the replica sailing ship and the vessel it was designed after.

The Hermione will dock in Greenport the final two days of the festival, Monday, July 6 and Tuesday, July 7. A one-day adult pass to the festival is $20, $15 for seniors and $10 for children. Tickets can be purchased at greenporttallships.com.

The Tall Ships festival begins with five other ships docked in Greenport Harbor on July 4 and 5.

Both of tonight’s lectures are free and open to the public.
