Southold News: Historical society hosting antique clothing sale

It is unseasonably cool as I write this. I want my summer back. I love the hot, sunny days of summer activities. There is so much to do here on the North Fork.

Celebrating birthdays are: Pollina Anselmo, July 5; Lois Manfredi and Jamie Grzegorczyk, July 12; Kyra Panetta and John Zaveski, July 13; Jamie Engles, July 14; and Cathy Reilly, July 16. Happy birthday to all!

Happy 16th wedding anniversary to Dawn and Jamie Grzegorczyk on July 3.

Congressman Lee Zeldin and Town Supervisor Scott Russell will be addressing items of interest and concern to Southold at the annual meeting of Kenney’s-McCabe’s Beach Civic Association July 11 at Peconic Recreation Center. Coffee will be served at 8:30 a.m., with the meeting starting at 9. All are welcome to attend.

In shelter news, North Fork Animal Welfare League is in desperate need of dry dog and cat food for the pantry. Your donations help feed the animals of the less fortunate. July 9 is the next spay and neuter clinic and appointments are required. Call 631-566-8870. Tickets for the “Paws by the Bay Soiree” are already on sale. There is much to share in historical society news. Southold Historical Society is pleased to announce they will be hosting a “Couture and Antique Clothing” sale Thursday, July 23, through Saturday, July 25, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Cosden-Price Gallery, 54127 Main Road in Southold. Some of the items offered include period and designer coats, dresses, handbags, hats and shoes. So, ladies, please clean out your closets of those cocktail dresses and all those articles you once wore for a special occasion. If you have something to donate, call Chris Wruck at 765-4614. Funds raised will be earmarked for preservation of the Civil War banner, which the society acquired last year.

The historical society will present “The Road Home” concert, in conjunction with First Presbyterian Church of Southold, in honor of the 375th anniversary of Southold Town. The Corchaug Singers will be at the church Saturday, July 11, at 8 p.m. Admission is free. For more information on this performance or other society programs, call 765-5500.

I laugh every year I write this. Did you know the library lends out fishing poles and gear? Don’t forget to get your fishing license for anglers over the age of 16 while you’re at it. You may call 866-933-2257 for the license.

Summer vacation has officially begun! What will you be doing? We are devising a calendar full of local activities to enjoy the beautiful place we are so blessed to live in. Of course, a road trip or two is in there too, but I am searching the North Fork for kid-friendly stuff where the adults aren’t bored. Anyone have suggestions? Remember, if you are like me in this endeavor, the libraries and rec center are great places to start!
