Baseball: Ospreys, Tomcats named to all-star team

The stars will come out on Wednesday night. Prominent among them will be members of the North Fork Ospreys and the Riverhead Tomcats.

Ten Ospreys and nine Tomcats were named to play in the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank on Wednesday night. Those Ospreys and Tomcats will be joined by representatives of the Shelter Island Bucks on the North team that will play the South, which will have players from the Montauk Mustangs, the Sag Harbor Whalers, the Southampton Breakers and the Westhampton Aviators.

The Ospreys’s strong pitching was reflected in the selection of pitchers Anthony Catinella, Daniel Jacobsen, Frank Moscatiello and Danny Pobereyko. Also picked from the Ospreys were catcher Jake Lieberman, infielders Kyle Colletta, Bobby Honeyman and James Morisano, outfielder Tyler Houston and designated hitter Austin Guzzo.

The all stars from the Tomcats are: pitchers Joe Christopher, Dan Jagiello, Jake Pilewicz and Jake Reinhardt, catcher Nate Soria, infielders Alex Perry and Paul Russo, and outfielders Turner Buis and Ben Socher.

The league released the all-star rosters on Monday night.

The league’s inaugural Home Run Derby, a three-round affair, will precede the game. Peter Papcun of the Ospreys and Hunter Dolshun of the Tomcats will take part in that competition along with Montauk’s Billy McLean, Sag Harbor’s Scott Hagan, Shelter Island’s Dominic Brugnoni, Southampton’s Rob Moore and Westhampton’s Colin Brockhouse. The eighth and final batter in the derby was to be determined by a fan vote.
