Southold blotter: Statue stolen, reporter causes disturbance

A Southold woman reported a $30 lighthouse statue stolen from her house, according to a police report.

She called police just after noon Saturday to report that the statue was taken from her residence on Private Road 3.

• A Southold man called police Thursday afternoon to report a potential credit card scam, according to a police report.

The report said a man told police that someone claiming to be from MasterCard called him from an unlisted number. A female began speaking to the man about charges on his debit card.

The man became suspicious and hung up, the report stated, and when he called the phone number on the back of his debit card, he was told there were no problems with his account.

• An employee of a Laurel business called police last Tuesday afternoon to report that a window to the business’s garage had been broken, according to a police report.

The man told police that an unknown individual slashed a screen and broke a window to the garage, the report stated. Officers responded and took photos and fingerprints.

Although nothing was reported stolen, the screen and window are listed as having a combined $250 value, according to the report.

• A Cutchogue woman called police last Monday morning to report a disturbance because a CBS News reporter was repeatedly knocking on her door, according to a police report.

The woman asked the reporter to leave her property on Horseshoe Drive, and the reporter complied, police said.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
