Mattituck News: Jazz music at Macari Vineyards on Aug. 28

With the beginning of school less than three weeks away, there’s a feeling in the air that every moment counts.

Beaches are packed, wineries are doing brisk business and farm stands are overflowing with the bounty of the season — with many picking up veggies for the last summer barbecues before sending a child to college.

This time of year, we reconnect with local friends and neighbors, so while driving by Joe and Darla Doorhy’s last week during the Kait’s Angels yard sale to benefit Ben Pileski and seeing all the familiar folks who contributed their time and treasures it was hard not to count my blessings. Living in a community that always stands by one another during good times and bad is a gift we sometimes take for granted. All proceeds from the sale went to help Ben’s family through his recovery. Our prayers and thoughts continue to go to Ben as he works daily at rehab at St. Charles Hospital. Bravo to everyone who helped Kait’s Angels do what they do best: pay it forward.

Weddings are also common during the summer, so it’s fitting to wish a happy anniversary to some local couples celebrating that memorable occasion. Happy anniversary to Dimitri and Alexandra Papadopoulos, Eric and Gail Bressler, Pat and Don Feiler and Dan and Karen Letteriello. Here’s to many more years to come!

Speaking of celebrating, let’s send a wish to the following people who have birthdays in the next two weeks: Justin Aretz, Cheryl Lynch, Kevin Diffley, Kevin Cande, Billy Birkmier, Brenden Anderson, Jim MacLeod, Jason Zaweski, Clay Austin, Barbara Smith and Rose Ruland. Enjoy blowing out your candles!

For a great way to start saying goodbye to summer, gather with friends to check out Dave Smith and the East End Jazz Quartet at Macari Vineyards in Mattituck Friday, Aug. 28, from 5 to 7 p.m.
