A Southold man was arrested on drug charges early Saturday morning after leading police on a high-speed chase, Southold Town police said.

Victor Perez, 22, driving with two minors at around 12:45 a.m. in New Suffolk when police attempted to pull him over for a traffic violation, police said.

Mr. Perez then turned off his car’s headlights, sped away and didn’t stop at stop signs and red traffic lights, police said.

He was speeding at 90 mph near the intersection of New Suffolk and Locust avenues before crashing his car into a farm field, officials said, adding Mr. Perez and a passenger fled on foot after the accident.

Officers later apprehended the suspects and Mr. Perez was found with an unspecified amount of marijuana, officials said.

He was arrested and charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer, reckless driving, endangering the welfare of a minor and criminal possession of marijuana, as well as traffic violations, police said.

Mr. Perez was held for morning arraignment.
