A bus was ticketed Saturday for making an illegal turn at the same Route 48 intersection where four young women were killed in a tragic crash two months ago, Southold Town Police said.

The ticket was among the 43 handed out Saturday at a special U.S. Department of Transportation checkpoint.

Southold Town police escorted eight buses and nine limousines to the checkpoint, accounting for 34 of the violations that were issued, police said. Nine additional tickets were issued by the Suffolk County police motor carrier safety section and the Suffolk County Taxi and Limousine Commission.

“As a result of the safety checks, two buses and one limousine were placed out of service,” town police said in a press release.

Police led a similar patrol across Southold Town in July, which also led to violations being issued.
