John P. Sullivan

John P. Sullivan of Cutchogue died Sept. 22, 2015. He was 85. 

He was born in Springfield, Mass., March 1, 1930, to Daniel and Mary (Toomey) Sullivan and received a Bachelor of Arts in business administration.

For many years, he served as administrator for the Navy PX Exchange.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and served as commander of American Legion Post 803 in Southold.

John was a devout Catholic and a generous contributor to his church and many other charities.

He enjoyed playing golf, traveling with his wife, Arlene, to Europe and Florida in the winters, and dining out with John and Rose Berryman of Southold.

John was also comfortable in the kitchen, where he cooked and prepared gourmet meals daily. Everyone enjoyed his baked clams, which were served at his annual “Trim the Tree” party.

He is survived by his wife and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends were welcomed Sept. 25 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck, where the American Legion held services and Deacon Jeff Sykes conducted prayer services. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Sept. 26 at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue by Monsignor Joseph W. Staudt. Interment took place at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.
