Mattituck News: Literary Café at Mattituck-Laurel Library

Running into Merri MacNish as she was getting her hair done for her son’s wedding started my weekend off with a smile.

Merri told me Kenny was marrying the girl of his dreams, Megan Cavanaugh, whom he’s known since he was 12. As I was completing my errands that day, I drove past Mattituck Presbyterian Church just in time to see the bride and groom exiting the church. Seeing all the friends and family awaiting them made me smile even more. The happy couple enjoyed a reception at Strong’s Water Club. May your life be filled with love!

Mattituck Presbyterian Church will host a women’s luncheon Friday, Oct. 9, at noon. Bring a dish and a friend to share it with while you enjoy guest speaker Gene Heacock, “traveling octogenarian.” Need more information? Call Susan Brewster at 734-5063.

Fall is a great time of year to help our neighbors — and CAST’s supermarket food drive on Saturday, Oct. 3, will do just that. As you do your own shopping, consider donating some non-perishable food items to help others get through the season. Waldbaum’s in Mattituck, King Kullen in Cutchogue and the IGAs in Southold and Greenport are all participating.

Hats off to the volunteers who helped with the Mattituck Athletic Booster Club’s awesome volleyball tournament last Saturday at MHS. From cooking pasta to selling food to cleaning up and setting up, the volunteers never disappoint when it comes to working for our kids.
