Southold Blotter: Intoxicated teen punches police officer

• A 21-year-old man was arrested Sept. 24 on drug charges in Greenport, Southold Town police said. 

Police responded to a report of people banging on a rear window of an apartment at Lakeside Garden Apartments around 10:20 p.m. and found Jesus Gastaliturri-Espada of Greenport with another person in the area, officials said.

Mr. Gastaliturri-Espada was arrested after police found him in possession of a tinfoil packet containing cocaine, officials said. He was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and released on bail, police said.

• An 18-year-old woman was arrested early in the morning on Sept. 26 after allegedly punching a police officer in Greenport, according to a police report.

Police responded to a report that Stephanie Wright of Orient was intoxicated on Kaplan Avenue, the report stated. When officers found her, she was “highly intoxicated in the roadway” and “cursing and yelling extremely loudly,” the report stated.

Officers attempted to escort Ms. Wright to her residence. She began kicking the windows of the police car while inside, according to the report.

When an officer attempted to calm her down, she “struck the [officer] in the side of the face with a closed fist,” the report stated.

She was arrested and charged with second-degree harassment. Police transported her to headquarters for processing.

• More than $1,000 worth of electronics and jewelry were stolen from a Greenport home last week, according to a police report.

The Carpenter Street resident called police around 3:50 p.m. last Friday to report that someone had broken the second-floor window, worth $100, in her kitchen to gain entry into her home, then stole a variety of items, including jewelry and her son’s video games.

She told police the burglary occurred between 7:30 p.m. Monday and 3:50 p.m. Friday, according to the report. The window is located at the top of a fire escape, which is likely how the suspect gained access to it, police said.

• A Southold woman went to police headquarters Sept. 25 to report that her watch, worth more than $6,000, was missing from her residence, according to a police report.

The woman told police she could not locate the watch in her Wabasso Street home, police said. The watch is a Rolex worth $6,240.

• A $200 television was stolen from a Greenport residence in mid-September, police said.

The Sixth Street resident told police Saturday morning that she believes someone removed the screen from a front window between 4 p.m. Sept. 13 and 10 a.m. Sept. 26, according to a police report.

She told officers a 42-inch television was removed, but that nothing else was disturbed.

An investigation is ongoing.

• Someone stole a $600 cellphone from an unlocked vehicle that was parked in Greenport overnight Sept. 26 into Sept. 27, according to a police report.

A Greenport woman called police Sept. 27 around 7 p.m. to report that her Samsung Galaxy S6 had been taken from her vehicle, which was parked overnight in front of her Ninth Street apartment, the report stated.

• A Greenport man called police Sunday morning to report that $140 in cash and $150 worth of wine were stolen from his home in early September, according to a police report.

• A $650 laptop and over $700 in cash were allegedly stolen from a Mattituck apartment Sept. 22, according to a police report.

Tenants in a Sound Avenue apartment first called police around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday to report that a $650 HP laptop and $375 cash had been taken in a burglary, police said. They told officers the door was broken.

Then, around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, the same tenants called police again to report another $330 in cash missing from the apartment.

An investigation is ongoing.

• A Greenport man told police Sept. 25 that someone scratched the exterior of his vehicle last week, causing $1,800 in damage, according to a police report.

The Linnet Street resident reported that he does not know what caused the scratches or who did it, police said. He believes it was done between 10:45 a.m. on Sept. 24 and 7:35 p.m. on Sept. 25.

• A Mattituck woman told police her bicycle, worth $100, was taken from her property Sept. 22 without her permission, according to a police report.

She called police around 6:30 p.m. to report the incident. An officer canvassed the area around her Love Lane residence, but could not find the bicycle, the report stated.

• A Greenport woman called police Sept. 22 to report her son’s $250 bicycle had been stolen, according to a police report.

The woman told police around 3:40 p.m. that her son’s Mongoose bicycle was taken from the front yard of their Third Street home, the report stated. An officer was unable to locate the bicycle in the area.

• Someone allegedly stole a cash box and more than $100 worth of produce from a Peconic farm stand last Monday, according to a police report.

While the owner was closing his Route 48 stand for the night around 6:30 p.m., he noticed that a $95 cash box, $130 worth of fruit and a $50 stump were all missing, the report stated.

• A Southold woman called police Sept. 26 to report folding tables and chairs taken from her deck, police said.

The woman reported two plastic folding tables and 12 plastic folding chairs, worth about $40, were taken from her deck on Main Bayview Road, according to the police report. However, she was unsure when they were taken because they had been outside since a party last month.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
