Senior Joey Worysz capped a Southold comeback with 5 minutes 6 seconds remaining in regulation time to lift the First Settlers to a 2-1 comeback win over Mattituck, spoiling the Tuckers’ homecoming on Saturday afternoon.

Goalkeeper Dylan Clausen punted the ball that Worysz latched onto and took advantage of a confused Mattituck defense, beating goalkeeper James Jacobs to give the First Settlers (11-2-1) the dramatic non-league victory.

Southold entered the game ranked sixth among New York State Class C schools. Mattituck was ranked 15th among Class B schools.

Sophomore Axel Rodriguez-Canal lifted Mattituck (10-4) to a 1-0 lead 6:59 into the second half when he headed in a Joe Tardif cross from the right wing.

Worysz created Southold’s equalizing goal with 12:56 left in the half as Noah Mina headed home his corner kick.

Clausen finished with six saves and Jacobs with eight.

Mattituck can secure home-field advantage in the Suffolk County Class B Tournament with a League VII win at Bishop McGann-Mercy Diocesan High School on Tuesday.

Southold already has secured the League VIII title.
