Southold blotter: Greenport man charged with DWI

A Greenport man was arrested for driving while intoxicated Sunday night, according to a police report.

Christian Hansen was pulled over near the intersection of Wilmarth Avenue and Main Street around 11:10 p.m. Sunday, police said. He had been allegedly crossing the double yellow line and driving with a non-illuminated license plate.

Police found him to be intoxicated and placed him under arrest, the report stated. He was held for a morning arraignment.

• Police were called to Mitchell Park in Greenport Sunday night because an intoxicated homeless woman was allegedly offering crack cocaine to kids who were skateboarding nearby, police said.

A man flagged down a police officer on patrol in Greenport at 8:46 p.m. to report the woman’s activity, police said. The officer found her drinking beer in front of the park.

The woman told police the kids were bothering her and that she suffers from mental illness, which caused her to mention crack cocaine to them, the report stated. The officer searched her pockets with her consent and didn’t find any contraband or weapons.

She was transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital for her intoxication and mental health, according to the report. She was also issued a Greenport Village code violation for drinking in a public place.

• A resident at a sober home in Laurel called police last Thursday to report that a fellow resident tried to attack him during a dispute in the home, police said.

The caller told police that on Nov. 10 he was cleaning the home when another resident became upset over the fact that a can of wipes was not returned to the supply closet. The caller reported that the other resident then “took a kitchen fork and came at him with it.”

There were no injuries reported in the dispute, but the caller was “upset about the incident” and was advised to leave the sober home, police said. He did not wish to press charges at the time he called police.

• A Southold woman called police Nov. 11 to report an alleged identity theft.

According to a police report, the Main Road resident reported that she saw a fraudulent credit card charge of $127.95 on her bank statement. She stated that her credit card has since been canceled.

A New York City man was listed as a suspect in the report. A detective has been notified, police said.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
