Elbertie Hulse Thornhill

Elbertie “Bert” Hulse Thornhill, longtime Greenport resident, died Nov. 30, 2015 in Greensboro, N.C. She was 25 days past her 103rd birthday.  

Elbertie was born Nov. 4, 1912, in Greenport to Daniel Harrison Hulse and Sarah Ellen Buesch. She was a graduate of Greenport High School and a Brown’s Business School in Jamaica, N.Y.

On Sept. 23, 1934, she married William James Thornhill of Greenport, who predeceased her in 1983. Elbertie was a mother and homemaker until she went to work for First National Bank of Greenport, later known as Valley National Bank. She retired after 25 years.

Elbertie is survived by her son, William James Thornhill Jr. and his wife, Sharon Gentry Thornhill of Greensboro; her daughter, Judith T. Terry and her husband, George N. Terry of Southold; four beloved grandchildren and five adored great-grandchildren.

Interment will take place at St. Agnes R.C. Church Cemetery in Greenport. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
